If you’ve ever been in a discussion with someone and wondered how they come up with facts that just aren’t true, a recent study by Ohio State University might shed some light.
In a study published last week, researchers showed how we create our own false information, and we do it so deeply that we also create statistics to go along with that errant information.
The researchers found that we don’t just search only for facts and statistics that are in-line with our own opinions (confirmation bias); when we see facts and statistics that refute our stance on a topic, we change them to our own side. We actually misremember the numbers that are contrary to our beliefs to look like they support our beliefs.
The human mind is certainly something interesting!
